Synaptic transmission I The Synapse I How Neurons Communicate
How do nerve cells talk to each other? In this video, Dr. Kushner covers synaptic transmission. Synaptic transmission is the process by which neurons communicate with each other in the nervous system. It occurs across synapses ("synaptic cleft"), which are small gaps between neurons.
Corrections - 7:08 I incorrectly use the word "dock" to describe calcium's effect on vesicles. Docking is a very specific term used to describe the process by which vesicles are brought close to the presynaptic membrane in preparation for the release of neurotransmitters.

Sensation vs. Perception: What's the Difference?
Просмотров 29 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In this video, Dr. Kushner provides an overview of what it means to "sense" and "perceive" something. In sum, sensation is our ability to detect information from the outside world (smells, sights, sounds) and then convert that energy into electrical signals to reach the brain for processing. Perception is the way in which the brain processes and communicates these senses to the rest of the body...

    so my thought 'I want to eat an apple' gets encoded in a chemical signal? how does that look?

    • @PsychExplained
      @PsychExplained 3 дня назад

      Yep 👍 Obviously simplifying but: Hypothalamus receives signals that you are hungry - signals the cortex which triggers a thought “I am hungry” - motor cortex sends efferent neurons to your arm to reach for an apple 🍎- eat!!!

    I am dealing with a stress reaction to grief and came across this channel because I am trying to find out why my body is reacting so intensely. Your videos have been so helpful. Our bodies are pretty amazing huh? That it does all this automatically is just unbelieveable. Thank you very much for uploading these videos.

    This is such an underrated channel, explanations about everything is so good. I've noticed that you don't upload videos very often but i beg you to please make more videos, i know you might be busy but as a student i really like your teaching method. It's really short and simple and you also give plenty memory tricks and other related facts which is very helpful. Sir you make everything easy to understand and drawings are just so perfect, the texts are so pretty at first i thought it was presentation but when i carefully noticed it was manually done. Your presentation is so subtle and you don't waste time in the beginning of your videos which is perfect. If it is possible for you i would like to request other various major/famous topics from different psychology fields (such as history of psychology, social psychology, about some famous psychologist and their work, some famous theories, etc) i would really like to learn more from you. As dumba** students we need you, sir😭🙏🏻(those who agree please like my comment so this wonderful teacher realise that how many students want to learn from him) [also those videos about AP exam was really good you explained every option and as I'm preparing for entrance exam those kinds of Q-A videos really helped me, thank you sir]

    Best video!!! Good, slow explanation, giving time to process all the new information. I want to make such videos in my language in the future (Bulgarian), because these types of informative educational videos at university level are non-existent and books don't do a great job at explaining something this graphical. Thank you!
